What is an Art Show?
What is an art show?
What things do artists do to get ready for an art show?
They make art, select which artwork to show, find a location, they promote their show (tell people about it) and they talk about their art.
Curating is the act of selecting, organizing, and presenting objects for display.
- Select a piece of art that you have worked on 2 or more art classes.
- You work should be a piece that you are proud of creating.
- Your art should be complete and be your personal best work.
We will organize our work by class, with each student having a special place to display their work (by their name). We will prepare it for display in a later lesson on framing and our artist statement.

Responding | 7. Perceive and analyze artistic work. | A. Perceive | Identify uses of art within one's personal environment |
Do you have any art in your home or in your bedroom? Do you have a lamp that is shaped like a dinosaur or a unicorn? A designer made that.
We spent several weeks exploring buildings in art class. But everything so far has been about the outside. Today let's explore the inside of houses. The inside is certainly just as important!
What do I think about?
What is important to me?
We know a self-portrait is a picture of what we look like. But there is so much more about us that is important!
Can you create a self-portrait that also shows what is important to you?
Marc Chagall painted this self-portrait. He wanted to show some of the things that were important to him.
What is he thinking about? Where did he place the things he was thinking about?
Tempera Paint Self-Portrait Video
If you are going to create a self-portrait ask yourself these questions.
- Where will you place your head?
- What shape will you draw first?
- What things will you include in your self-portrait to show what you think

Lesson One: Focusing on Faces
Objectives:
Observe and discuss proportion in portraits
Make a face map
Today we are going to make a face map so that we can practice placing the eyes, nose and mouth on the face.
First, we begin with an oval for the face. Then we divide the face in half with a horizontal line. This helps us with eye placement.
Now, we will draw a vertical line down the center of the oval.
This will help us make our faces symmetrical, or the same on each side.
Third, we will draw a short line halfway between our horizontal line and the bottom of the face.
This will be where the bottom of the nose is placed.
Finally, we will draw a slightly longer line between the nose line in the chin for the mouth.
Then you are ready to add your eyes, nose and mouth.
